The Missing 2008 Cars

Recently, Mattel revised the Cars case assortments for cases E, F, G, H and J. It was noted that several Cars that were originally scheduled to be included in these assortments are now gone and have been replaced by older Cars. As a result, collectors were left wondering what will happen to these missing Cars.

Two a Day speculated that Mattel is planning another Wal-Mart exclusive assortment for 2008. They make a good case, after all we know that Mattel already has the mold for Richard Clayton Kensington. They have already produced one for the charity auction that happened last year. It could be that Mattel is holding these Cars back for release as Wal-Mart exclusives.

So when will we know what the future holds for Cars collectors? Toy Fair is right around the corner, in New York on February 17-20, 2008. I’m guessing we will find out at Toy Fair what Mattel has planned for these missing Cars, as well as the rest of 2008.

Here is the list of Cars that were removed from these upcoming assortments.

  • Chief Trunk Fresh
  • Dinoco Crew Chief
  • Marco Super FAV18 (Jet)
  • Octane Gain Crew Chief
  • Pit Crew Sarge
  • Richard Clayton Kensington (Security Van)

Cars Case F and Other 2008 Cars Case Assortment Changes

Pit Crew Member Sarge, Richard Clayton Kensington (Security Van), Trunk Fresh Crew Chief, Marco Super FAV-18 (Jet), Dinoco Crew Chief and Octane Gain Crew Chief are now gone from these assortments and have been replaced with older Cars. So which new Cars are in case F? Dudley Spare the Octane Gain Pitty, is the only one.

What is in Cars Case F?

Can anyone out there confirm which Cars are in Case F? Case F is just now starting to show up at retailers, and I am seeing several lists of what Cars were supposed to be in it and which Cars are actually showing up.

Now that Mattel changed the assortment for Case E, I believe the list of Cars that we got at the end of last year is no longer accurate. I think that we will still see the same Cars this year just not the same assortments listed there. I wish that Mattel would revise this list so that the retailers, especially those who are pre-selling cases, will have a better idea of what is expected in those cases. It sucks to order cases thinking they will have certain Cars when those have been replaced with repeats.

If you can confirm what Cars are in Case F, please post in the comments below. Thanks.

Update – 2/1/08: No sooner than I ask the question, do I get a response from none other than my other favorite Cars blogger, (besides yours truly of course) metroxing of Two a Day. Here is Two a Day’s post on upcoming Cars assortment changes for 2008 from Mattel. It seems that Mattel is removing a lot of the newer Cars from upcoming assortments. This fits with the pattern we’ve seen recently, and Two a Day makes a good case for another Wal-Mart exclusive assortment of Cars.

Anyway, we now have the next assortments from cases F, G, H, & J (no Box I). In a nutshell, we’ve lost Pit Crew Member Sarge, Richard Clayton Kensington (Security Van), Trunk Fresh Crew Chief, Marco Super FAV-18 (Jet) and Octane Gain Crew Chief. The bad news is they have replaced most of all the “new” in each box with the same old-same old. Since we know that some of these Cars are already in production, due to the charity auction assortment a few months ago, metroxing believes that they are being held back for an upcoming Wal-Mart assortment. It’s up to you to choose whether you believe this or not.

Cars E Case is Out Now

The hits keep coming in the Disney Cars diecast line. The brand new Cars E case that was due out in January is due to ship this week according to retailers. So it should be out soon at a store near you, if it’s not already.

It’s also being reported by Two a Day, in addition to retailers, that the assortment for case E has recently changed. Richard Clayton Kensington (the security van) and Pit Crew Sarge are no longer included in case E, and neither is Tom Race Official. Instead, they are being replaced by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Ghostlight Ramone. Here is the original assortment that was scheduled for case E.

Here is the new assortment.

New Cars in this assortment include My Name is Not Chuck (the McQueen and Rust-Eze pit crew member) and Tow, the Race Tow Truck. The good news is that it appears that both of the new Cars are 2 per case, so they should be easier to find. Here are some pictures of the Cars from case E.

New Sponsor: Cars For a Dollar

I would like to announce today our first sponsor on Cars Toys Blog, Cars for a Dollar. Cars for a Dollar is a pretty simple site in that all it does is search eBay for Cars toys currently priced at or under $1 and displays them with soonest ending items first. You can also search these results by keyword or by category from the category links on the side.

I think Cars For a Dollar is a really valuable resource for parents and collectors of Cars in that it will allow you to build your collections for cheap, or find those extras you missed because you had a limited budget. We’re interested in knowing what you think about the site, so feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Here are some sample searches for you to try out, just to see how cool Cars for a Dollar really is.

Dinoco Mia & Tia Movie Moments Out Now

Dinoco Mia & Tia are now starting to show up on eBay, along with Movie Moments case C, which means these are now in the US. As far as I know, they are not showing up at retail yet, but be on the lookout. They should show up at retail in a few weeks.

As far as I know, Dinoco Mia and Tia are the only new Cars in Movie Moments case C. But they are 2 per case, and there are some other 2 packs included that have been previously hard to find. Here is the list of what’s included in Movie Moments case C.

Here is an image of the Dinoco Mia & Tia 2 pack.

New Cars 3 Packs Found

I just heard a report about 3 new Cars 3 packs being found at retail right now. The interesting thing is that 2 of these 3 packs each have a new version of an existing character in them. The first one is Lightning McQueen’s Crew with Lightning McQueen, Lightning Ramone and Flo. Lighting McQueen and Flo are repacks, and Lightning Ramone is a repaint. Ramone’s new paint job in this version is red with a lightning bolt on the side.

The second one is the Dirt Track gift pack with Cactus Lightning McQueen, Sheriff and Dirt Track Doc Hudson. Sheriff and Cactus McQueen are repacks although Cactus McQueen was previously only available at Wal-Mart. The Doc Hudson is a repaint with red rims from the scene in the movie where he races McQueen. The is the first time Doc Hudson has red rims. The previous Hudson with red rims was the Hudson Hornet.

The third 3 pack is the Piston Cup gift pack with Lightning McQueen, Charlie Checker and The King. McQueen and The King are reissues, but Charlie Checker was previously only available at Wal-Mart as “Piston Cup Pace Car.” Also, there appears to be a difference between the 3 pack version of Charlie Checker and the Wal-Mart exlcusive version, in that the Wal-Mart exclusive version has red tail lights and the 3 pack version has yellow tail lights.

So to recap, these have only 2 repainted Cars not available anywhere else. Based on that, I’m not sure how many collectors these will appeal to, other than completists. They being found at Wal-Mart, Toys R Us and KB so far. Here is an image of all three 3 packs.

Update: Apparently there is a fourth 3 pack that is due to be out, but is not showing up yet. This one is called the Dinoco Dream gift pack and includes Gold Mia & Tia and Bling Bling Lightning McQueen. Here is an image below. You can see that Dinoco McQueen is shown, but the packaging says Bling Bling Lightning McQueen.

Update 2 – 1/10/08: The Dinoco Dream gift pack with Gold Mia & Tia and Bling Bling McQueen is now starting to show up on eBay, which means you should be able to find them at retail soon.

Flik & P.T. Flea Movie Moments 2 Pack

If you have been wondering what happened to the Flik & P.T. Flea Movie Moments 2 pack, we may have an answer for you. Flik & P.T. Flea have been showing up on eBay outside the US for weeks now, but none have made it to the US yet. I haven’t heard a reason why this is taking so long to show up over here. As a result, prices remain high as they are only available outside the US so far.

That may be changing however. There is currently an eBay seller in California that has one up for auction. Does this mean we will start seeing more Flik and P.T. Flea at stores in the US soon? We can only wait and see.

Cars “D” Case is Out Now

December must be Cars month boys and girls, as we just got word that the Cars D case is out at retail now. This is the second case to arrive this month, after the C case which hit just a few weeks ago. Congratulations to Mattel who seems to really be pumping out the new product before the end of the year. Hopefully, this will continue into 2008!

This time there are only two new Cars included, Pit Crew Guido and Tom Race Official. The good news is that these are supposed to be two per case each. So hopefully, these won’t be too hard to find this time around. Here is the full list of Cars supposed to be in the D case. Next up is the E case which should be out in January!

Cars “C” Case is Out Now

Mattel has a lot of Cars releases planned for the end of this year/beginning of next year, and it seems they are putting them out in stores pretty fast. With the B case hitting just a few weeks ago, the C case is just now hitting retail as well as eBay.

The C case has no new Cars in it, but these Cars are on the new World of Cars cardbacks. So some of these Cars are appearing on the new cardbacks for the first time, such as the Yeti. The C case also has more of the new Cars that were in the B case, so if you don’t have the Dinoco Helicopter, Fred, Pit Crew Hudson Hornet or Pit Crew Fillmore, more of these will be showing up at retail now. Here is the full list of Cars in the C case.
